High Street
Self watering planters have been installed along Brandon High Street to not only brighten up the area but also to help with pollution. The planting is crucial for improving air quality and removing pollutants from the atmosphere.
This scheme started in Autumn 2021, utilising a COVID recovery grant for high streets.
Working closely with Brandon Town Council we were able to secure nineteen self-watering promenade planters, and two additional tiered planters.
The promenade planters were planted with dwarf weeping pear trees and dwarf malus to provide interest through the seasons, be attractive to pollinators, and to cope with waterlogging in winter from containers that never drain.

Seasonal planting adds some much-needed colour

Two tiered planters have also been installed
However, the containers are not suitable for long-term planting of trees and, in 2025, we will be replacing the trees with Taxus Baccata (English Yew).
In 2024, seven new water butts with integrated planters were added to shops along the high street. These hold over 300 plants, further increasing biodiversity and adding some much-needed colour and seasonal interest.
Our long-term aim is to continue to monitor pollution levels and adding greenery through living walls.
