Our Areas

The Wedge

This is our showpiece garden located in the centre of town and is used to celebrate all occasions in the town. The area is planted and decorated for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer, Halloween, Remembrance and Christmas as well as other special occasions such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

A wooden support frame runs behind the planters where six fan trained fruit trees are located. All six trees have been adopted by local families. The fan trees where chosen for their shape, as they can be trained to remain narrow, and for the flint wall to remain visible behind them. They are also self pollinating varieties and the fruits are enjoyed by residents and volunteers.

The Friendly Bench

The Friendly Bench are a network of innovative kerbside social spaces connecting people, connecting places and connecting with nature. Our bench was installed in 2021 after we were invited to apply for funding, made possible by the National Lottery, to cover the cost of the purchase and installation.

These outdoor spaces are welcoming, inclusive and accessible for all where people can come together to meet, chat or rest. The bench is installed on an area we adopted from Suffolk Highways in 2015 close to The Brandon Centre. We also have two small Malus Tschonoskii trees on the site and the bench was able to fit perfectly between these two sponsored trees.

The Rose Garden

Located next to the Brandon Heritage Centre this area in a prime visitor location. After initial plans for the site were put on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic a decision was made to plant the garden with roses. These roses are adopted by members of the local community which has helped pay for the renovation of this area.

The gravel for the garden was supplied free of charge by a local supplier and the soil was improved using manure from local stables. A bench, made from recycles car tyres, has been installed in memory of David Bimson who was a town councillor and a founder of the Heritage Centre. In 2020, after months of hard work, the roses were purchased and planted with companion plants being added in 2021.
